Why Bulgaria contacts Brașov

The Embassy of Brazil in Sofia is the resident diplomatic mission for Bulgaria. For citizens in Northern Bulgaria — particularly the Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, and Pleven regions — the Honorary Consulate in Brașov is geographically closer than many destinations within Bulgaria itself, and serves as a practical first point of contact for liaison, document preparation guidance, and signposting to the resident mission.

The Honorary Consulate of Brazil in Brașov, Romania, is positioned at the geographic heart of South-Eastern Europe. While our formal consular jurisdiction covers Alba, Brașov, Sibiu and Prahova counties in Romania, our liaison role with the Embassy of Brazil in Bucharest and Itamaraty allows us to direct, advise, and accompany Brazilian citizens and bilateral partners across the wider region — including Bulgaria.

Note: Morten Reimers currently serves as Honorary Consul Designate. The Consulate is in its pre-inauguration phase; the office maintains an active liaison agenda during this period.

Business & investment

Bulgaria ↔ Brazil trade

Bulgaria–Brazil trade is anchored in agricultural commodities, machinery, and pharmaceuticals, with growing interest from Bulgarian rose-oil and wine producers in the Brazilian premium market. Sofia–São Paulo connections via Frankfurt and Istanbul make business travel routine; the Consulate can host preparatory meetings in Brașov for Bulgarian companies planning a Brazilian trade mission.

Brazilian community

Diaspora & cultural ties

A small but active Brazilian community lives in Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna, mainly employed in IT, hospitality, football, and the arts. The Consulate maintains an open channel for community announcements, cultural events, and emergency assistance, in coordination with the resident Embassy in Sofia.
